There are three main types of compression bandage: short-stretch, medium-stretch and long-stretch elastic bandages. Compression works in the following way: Short-stretch elastic (low-elasticity) bandages provide high working pressures and low resting pressures. Materials with higher elasticity have higher resting pressures and lower working pressures.
